OREN R. LYONS, (Joagquisho) is a traditions faithkeeper of the Turtle Clan, and a Member of the Onondaga Nation Council of Chiefs of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, or the Haudenosaunee. He is professor of American Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he directs the Native American Studies Program. He is recognized internationally as an eloquent and respected spokesperson on behalf of Native peoples. He helped to establish the Working Group on Indigenous Populations, serves on the Executive Committee of the Global Forum of Spiritual and Parliamentary Leaders on Human Survival, and is a principal figure in the Traditional Circle of Indian Elders. Chief Lyons is the recipient of the Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor, National Audubon Award for the Environment, and the 1st International Earth Day Award. He was an All-American in lacrosse, and in 1993, he was elected to the Lacrosse National Hall of Fame.

The Iroquois Under 19 National Lacrosse Team played an exhibition match against lacrosse players from Tufts University and Medford High School.
