The students are standing outside the University of Francisco Marroquin, one of the most respected universities in Central America, where they conducted research and interviews. Three members of the Guatemala Group returned to Guatemala for follow-up research with support from the University of Francisco MarroquĂn (UFM). While living with university students, the Group members studied with professors of the Institute for Political Studies and International Relations. With support from the UFM and the University of Rafael Landivar (URL), the Group members conducted interviews in the political, academic, business, and civil society sectors to deepen their understanding of the Guatemalan state, poverty in Guatemala, and the Millennium Challenge Account. Between May 29 and June 1, the Group members worked at a youth leadership conference in Antigua, organized by the IGL, Project on Justice in Times of Transition, and the Spanish organizations FRIDE and DARA.
