On October 18th, 2010, Teny Gross, an EPIIC alumnus and graduate of Tufts University and the Harvard Divinity School, celebrated the opening of a new home for the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence, a Providence based organization whose mission is to "teach, by word and example, the principles and practices of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions."

Gross, who has been Executive Director of the Institute since 2001, has spent the last decade working with youth and families in poor communities of Providence, Rhode Island, gradually expanding the reach, scope, and impact of the organization. Excited about the new space, he noted that "Before, we were like nomads. We built relationships, but we never had a place where we could do our work. Now, we can do our trainings here, we can show that life is not all desperate. [The participants] can get exposed to classical music, photography, and pre-GED classes."
