Michael Abare (’07)

 

Mike Abare graduated from Tufts in 2007, where he majored in International Relations with a thematic focus on Global Cooperation and Justice and minored in Economics. During his sophomore year, Mike participated in the Inquiry program where he enjoyed facilitating the understanding of compelling oil and water issues to high school students.  He spent his junior year studying abroad in Andalusia, Spain.  During his senior year, Mike attended both the West Point SCUSA conference and a Texas A&M symposium discussing Civil-military Relations in a post 9/11 world.  One of his favorite memories was celebrating with West Point cadets at West Point's historic Officer's Club during the culmination of the SCUSA conference.  Mike also participated in on campus EPIIC symposiums and hosted cadets visiting Tufts.    In addition to his involvement with ALLIES, Mike was a TCU Senator and rower on the Tufts Men's Crew Team. He currently works at Oracle Corporation and is enrolled at Northeastern's Part-Time MBA Program.  He is planning on applying to policy school in Washington, DC after he completes his MBA. Brian Mackey ('07)
First Lieutenant, U.S. Army
TAC Officer. 20th Engineer Battalion

 
First Lieutenant Brian Mackey graduated Tufts in 2007 with a BS in Civil Engineering. He commissioned from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA and after extensive Army schooling, served a year as a Platoon Leader under the 584th Mobility Augmentation Company (MAC). He is now working directly for the commander as the 20th Battalion's TAC officer at Fort Hood, Texas. His unit is preparing to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to conduct counter-IED and Route Clearance Operations. Brian is a big supporter of ALLIES, and has enjoyed everything that he's done with the organization. He sends his regards to the current members; thank you for what you do for the Tufts Community. Nancy Henry (’09)

Second Lieutenant, U.S. Air Force

JRP Trip Leader 2008


Nancy Henry from Chattanooga, TN, is a 2009 Tufts alumna and a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.  She was a two-year co-chair of ALLIES and co-led the 2008 Joint Research Project in Amman, Jordan.  Also at the IGL, Nancy was a member of the 2006-2007 EPIIC class and participated in the NIMEP fact-finding trip to Lebanon.  Outside the IGL, she studied Arabic in Yemen and was an Executive Staff member of the National High School Model United Nations Conference.  At Tufts, Nancy earned a B.A. in Political Science and Anthropology.  Following her training, she will be assigned to Creech AFB, Nevada. James Nadel (’09)

 

James Nadel graduated from Tufts in May 2009, with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and French. His experience includes work for a U.S. Senate campaign, an internship at the Foreign Policy Association in New York City, and two internships in government. At Tufts, James was involved in the execution of the first two ALLIES Intellectual Roundtables. Membership in ALLIES prepared James for his internship in the State Department's Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization, where he supported the office's Afghanistan Provincial Reconstruction Team planning process, and developed options papers for a proposed interagency lessons learned system. He received the Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship, one of three awards given annually to State Department interns. Additionally, James recently completed a short research fellowship at the Army War College on behalf of ALLIES, as well as an internship at the National Defense University's Center for Applied Strategic Learning. Jesse Sloman (’09)

Second Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps

ALLIES Co-Chair 2007-2009

Second Lieutenant Jesse Sloman, US Marine Corps, is currently a student officer at The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. He is a 2009 graduate of Tufts University with a degree in political science. While at Tufts, Jesse served as co-chair of ALLIES, helping to organize ALLIES' first Intellectual Roundtable and many of ALLIES' engagement efforts with the Service Academies. Along with ALLIES co-founder Peter Maher, Jesse created and taught a full-credit Experimental College class introducing students to the US military. He was also a member of 2006-07 EPIIC class. Prior to reporting to The Basic School, Jesse worked as a Research Assistant at the US Army War College's Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute. (Dec. 2009)
