Clean Water | Uganda
Clean Water Access: Shilongo Village, Uganda
Description of Project: Our goal is to provide the Shilongo Village in Mbale Uganda with access to a supply of clean water that they can trust. The village with a population of 1,000, more than half of which are children, currently has only one inadequate water supply for the entire community. The water is currently believed to be highly polluted. Our hope is to provide a sustainable solution to the current dilemma the community is facing through the implementation of a new water filtration system. The needs of the community will be accessed through a battery of water quality tests, as well as an extensive community health survey. To work on this project, we are partnered with the Foundation for Development of Needy Communities (FDNC) located in Mbale, Uganda.
Progress: In May 2010, a group of 5 students and 1 professional mentor will travel to the community to access the current need in order to plan a course of action to implement a solution.
