Special Projects and Opportunities

Students will have the opportunity to pursue internship and research opportunities with a number of organizations and experts in the field of global health. Some examples include:

Center for Disease Control

• Internships with the Centers for Disease Control experts and officials, particularly on Global Health Security (e.g. a meta-analysis of capacity building assessments performed in central Asia or in Haiti)

Council on Foreign Relations

• Work with Laurie Garrett, Director of the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations, on an interactive map visually plotting diseases easily preventable by inexpensive vaccines

Knowledge Capital Corporation

• Work with the Knowledge Capital Foundation on zoonosis research and data collection in Africa, specifically in Gabon and the Ivory Coast

Center for Innovations in Wound Healing

• Research with Professor Ira Herman, Director of the Center for Innovations in Wound Healing at Tufts Medical School, on engineering advanced therapies for wounded civilians and warriors

UNICEF

• Research and internship opportunities with UNICEF on issues relating to child survival and mortality, especially with their Child Protection, Programmes

VII Photo Agency/Medecins Sans Frontieres

• Prepare educational materials for VII Photo Agency photographers for their project with Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders on neglected diseases

Physicians for Human Rights

• Work under the supervision of the Deputy Directors of Physicians for Human Rights, Susannah Sirkin and Rick Sollom, on health and human rights issues in Bahrain and Syria and on gender crimes and war

RefugePoint

• Work with RefugePoint to tackle refugee health issues

Cambodian Health Committee

• Research internships on drug and health care in Cambodia in the clinics organized by Dr. Anne Goldfeld, Co-Founder and Medical and Research Advisor of the Cambodian Health Committee

Center for North East Studies and Policy Research (CNES)

• Research opportunities with Sanjoy Hazarika on the boat clinics, sponsored by CNES, working to provide accessible health care to marginalized rural communities on the Brahmaputra river in India

Suicide Prevention Initiatives

• Work with Zachary Iscol, CEO of the Suicide Prevention Initiatives, on the mental healthcare needs of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans

Families USA

• Work with Families USA and its co-founder, Phil Villers, to prepare a nonpartisan panel on the debate over the healthcare bill prior to the election

Focal Point Global

• Work with Focal Point Global, founded by two Tufts alumnae, to address HIV and child trafficking.
