Cruger, Mississippi, 2008

In the heart of the Mississippi Delta, where cotton was once king, the small town of Cruger is home to just a few hundred people. Like many communities in the Delta, Cruger is sharply divided along racial lines. But both parts of the population-- white and black-- suffer from poverty; jobs are scarce, and quality education is nearly impossible to come by.
