Badshahi Masjid (Mosque) Lahore, Pakistan, Summer 2004

The photograph is taken in Lahore on my one day off from work. Generally, I am pretty much the 'walk around the city and discover it' kind of girl, but given that I had only this single day to see things other than those that made the view on my ride to and from the inside of lawyers' offices, guess what I did? I took a tour. The picture is of the famous Badshahi Mosque, built in 1673, by Aurangzeb, the last of the Moghul Emperors; and even though it isn't specifically about my research, is symbolizes much of what Pakistan came to mean to me, in terms of my work there. The dominant, beautiful, and complex structure of religion plays much of a part in the lives of most Pakistani women.
