ALLIES ALUMNI
Michael Abare (’07)
Mike Abare graduated from Tufts in 2007, where he majored in International Relations with a thematic focus on Global Cooperation and Justice and minored in Economics. During his sophomore year, Mike participated in the Inquiry program where he enjoyed facilitating the understanding of compelling oil and water issues to high school students. He spent his junior year studying abroad in Andalusia, Spain. During his senior year, Mike attended both the West Point SCUSA conference and a Texas A&M symposium discussing Civil-military Relations in a post 9/11 world. One of his favorite memories was celebrating with West Point cadets at West Point's historic Officer's Club during the culmination of the SCUSA conference. Mike also participated in on campus EPIIC symposiums and hosted cadets visiting Tufts. In addition to his involvement with ALLIES, Mike was a TCU Senator and rower on the Tufts Men's Crew Team. Manal Cheema is a senior majoring in Political Science in addition to pursuing a certificate in Ethics, Law, and Society and a minor in Cognitive and Brain Sciences. She has been involved with ALLIES since her freshman year as Freshman Rep/JRP Coordinator and served as Treasurer her sophomore year. She is excited to serve as Co-Director and work on expanding ALLIES this year. Outside of ALLIES, Manal runs a debating society at Tufts, the Union, and is a Writing Fellow. She is also writing a thesis on the Vietnam and Iraq Wars, undoubtedly inspired by her participation in ALLIES. For fun, she draws, pretends to be fit, and relishes in the fact that she can still beat her 10 year-old sister in Mario Kart after a shocking loss in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Vance Matthews ('18)
FieldEx Deputy Director
Vance Matthews is a sophomore from Monterey, California majoring in either International Relations or Economics. Coming from a family with deep roots in the military, he thought joining this club would be a great way to honor many those who have served, or who currently are serving, in his family. His main goal as Curriculum Director is to foster a greater community in ALLIES. Vance is currently involved in the Institute for Global Leadership's EPIIC class and symposium. When he is not studying or doing homework, he enjoys playing guitar and running.

Last year, he served on the planning teams for the 2015 CMRC and FieldEx 2016. Sam joined ALLIES after hearing Sherman speak at Jumbo Days, although a misdiagnosis of whooping cough delayed his attending a meeting until the very end of the first semester of his freshman year. On campus, he is also involved with Tufts CIVIC, Philosophy Club, the Tufts Daily, and intramural soccer. In his free time, Sam enjoys (among other things) reading, writing, sports, spending time with friends, and making semi-obscure pop culture references.
