Applications close at 5pm EST on March 28, 2012

 *****

All candidates for an Empower Fellowship must submit an online application. A committee will examine the applications and finalists will be contacted for an interview. Empower does not have a set number of Fellowships. They will be awarded on a case-by-case basis. The selection committee will review all applications received to determine the strongest candidates to receive the Fellowships.

The amount of the Fellowship is based on a combination of merit and need of the application. The funds given per Fellowship can reach up to $1500 for any individual and up to $3,500 for groups. As funding is limited, we encourage applicants to also explore external sources of funding.

There is a separate time-line for applicants to our network of partners. Please take note of the dates and deadlines below.

  1. Statement of Intent or
  2. Cover Letter to Organization*
  3. Current Resume
  4. Itemized Budget

* A cover letter is required for applications to partner organizations and Schwab network internships that are found through Empower. For Social Entrepreneurship Grants, Applied Research grants, and Like-Minded Organization internships you must instead submit a Statement of Intent to Empower, explaining what you would explain in a cover letter but addressed to the Empower selection committee. It is assumed that you will have already introduced yourself to the organizations with which you are planning to work. For guidelines on writing a cover letter and for the type of questions we are looking for in a statement of intent, please see "Schwab Foundation Fellowships" and read the "Cover Letter Guidelines."

Information for re-applicants

Re-applicants are required to complete the current Fellowship application in full.  Previous year submissions will not be reviewed.

The Empower Fellowship strives to empower the greatest possible number of Tufts students to achieve a maximum impact and create a large international community of social entrepreneurs.  First-time and denied re-applicants are given priority over former Fellow re-applicants. If you are reapplying for the Fellowship please make sure you provide strong evidence of the value added of your proposal as well as institutional backing from the organisation.
